About the VSGA Foundation

Anyone who has ever swung a club knows that there are important lessons to be learned on a golf course.  Lessons in honesty, dedication, and good old-fashioned hard work are learned through the greatest game ever played. Since its inception, the VSGA has worked to preserve these traditions and promote the sport of golf in Virginia.  Over the years, that guiding philosophy has grown into something of a mission, with leaders, volunteers and community members uniting around a common cause: to give something back to the game that has given so much.  It is in this spirit that the Independence project was born.

The VSGA Foundation’s Independence project is a dedicated effort to preserve, promote and grow the game that fosters self-reliance and builds character in all who play.  The result is the multi-million dollar, 260-acre Independence Golf Club and Robins Junior Golf Program.  This first class facility and top-notch learning program has hosted over 16,000 children. As our motto states, we are Shaping a Child's Life Through Golf. Our fund-raising efforts have provided scholarships to children who would not be able to attend programs otherwise.  We have opened our doors to Virginia’s home for golf and have work ahead to assure that our doors remain open to all who come knocking.
